Forum Spammers

Postby ben » Wed Jan 24, 2007 2:49 pm

Hello to all. We have been trying to maintain the forum as best we can in light of some recent spam attempts from what we assume are 'spambots'. This is not unusual on a forum and there are several ways to combat them in addition the measures we have had in place since day one.

We have decided to make some modifications to the way new users are registered to help reduce the ability of non-human registration attempts to be successful. Namely, we now require a "Registration Code". The code we have opted to use is simply "Jesus". This is case sensitive.

New users are now prompted for this 'code' when creating a new account. We will try this a while and see what happens. Based on the success that others have acheived with similar methods, this should resolve our 'spammer' issue. But only time will tell.

Thank you to all of you who let us know of messages and/or users that needed to be deleted. And we ask that you continue to let us know if you find anything odd or especially anything inappropriate within the forum.

Thank you and happy posting!
